Sweden always seem to be the sort of team that although not quite having enough to win the World Cup they are certainly going to get in the way of one of the favourites and make life difficult for them. Though they did come close in 1958, losing to Brazil 5-2 in the final, and have had two semi-final placings. The last in '94 where they again lost to Brazil.
They qualified for Germany 2006 by virtue of one of the two best runners-up slots, avoiding falling into the grasp of the playoffs. That doesn't tell the whole story as they only had two defeats out of ten games, both to Croatia, and they only conceded four goals. They finished equal on 24 points with Croatia but lost out on the top slot because of those defeats.
Once again Sweden have drawn England in the opening stages and they'll be looking to top the group as they did in 2002. They have one of the most feared strikers at the tournament, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and some very experienced international players, so they shouldn't be taken for granted whatever stage of the finals they manage to reach this time.
