On first glance Poland wouldn't be considered one of the World Cup greats but they have taken third place in two finals. Not a bad showing for their six appearances and they'll be hoping to make more Polish history in Germany.
Poland did well in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup finishing second behind England, who were the only team they lost games to out of that group, and netting 14 goals in the process.
They have a squad of established stars including Jerzy Dudek, Liverpool's goalkeeping hero in Istanbul when they won the Champions League final in 2005, and they've impressed so far. Group A is open to any team willing to fight for it and the extra push they need might be the chance to beat a rather lacklustre Germany. [Latest Poland Squad News]
