Despite an impressive World Cup record, hosts Germany will be hoping that home advantage will help carry them on through the finals as their form of late would not take them that far. Even reaching the final in 2002 against Brazil was a big shock to many and a massive achievement for the then manager Rudi Voller.
Germany are playing with a young squad and have a couple of rising stars in the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski, so they aren't without hope.
