France have featured in 12 World Cups so far and although always a force to be reckoned with they never really proved themselves until 1998 when they took the trophy on home soil and the last tournament where they were runners-up to Italy in a controversial final match.

Raymond Domenech remained as manager following the 2006 campaign and with 3 draws in the 2010 World Cup qualifying they were left in 2nd place behind Serbia and needed to go through a playoff with the Republic of Ireland. This match produced one of the most controversial moments of this World Cup so far as Thierry Henry clearly handled the ball to help William Gallas score a crucial goal in extra time to secure their place at this tournament.

For key players like Henry and Nicolas Anelka this could be their last World Cup but they have a strong squad behind them and could do well again.

Looking at Group A France will expect to finish top but only if they can forget the past and work together like they know they can. [Latest France Squad News]
