Côte d'Ivoire (or Ivory Coast) are newcomers to the World Cup's top stage and hope to excel like they did in qualifying for the finals.
Given no hope in their qualifying group against the likes of Cameroon and Egypt they stormed forward with four wins and only one defeat in their first five matches. They went into the second half of qualifiers as group leaders but in the end it all seemed like it would come down to their final game against Cameroon who had clawed their way back into contention. Only needing a draw they lost 3-2. Everyone thought Cameroon would now not give up their top spot in the final game but luck was with Côte d'Ivoire as they beat Sudan 3-1 and Cameroon could only manage a draw against Egypt. Côte d'Ivoire regained the top spot they had worked so hard for.
The Elephants are not without their stars, notably Didier Drogba , Aruna Dindane, and Kolo Toure, so expect to see some battling performances in Group C. [Latest Cote d'Ivoire Squad News]
