2010 Fifa World Cup Teams

Argentina are one of the regulars to appear at the World Cup Finals and although always a force to be reckoned with they do have their blips like in 2002 Japan/S Korea where they failed to get past the group stages.

Argentina got off to a good start in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers with victories in the first 3 rounds but then followed a period of indifferent results which would not see another win until Round 9 against Uruguay.

Round 10 saw another bad result and so despite a good score (4-0) against Venezuela in Round 11 it wasn't enough to save the coach Alfio Basile who had to make way for the legend that is Diego Maradona.

Despite the change in management the squad's struggles continued and in Maradona's first match in charge the team were humbled with a 6-1 loss to Bolivia. Yet more defeats followed and many will agree that Maradona was lucky to scrape 4th place, and the final automatic 2010 World Cup qualification position, with two vital wins in the last two rounds.

Maradona has a quality list of players to call on like Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano, Maxi Rodriguez and their big star Lionel Messi who plays for Barcelona and they remain a threat as always in this competition. Argentina's group is not without its challenges but they should be favourites to qualify and they'll certainly look to not repeat the nightmare of 2002. [Latest Argentina Squad News]
