The Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion was the first stadium to host an international match on home soil in 1950 and was the ground where current German coach Jürgen Klinsmann played his last game in 1999. It has been a part of plenty more major events between that time and so it was fitting the ground would play its part in the 2006 World Cup finals.
The stadium was ahead of the game by being to World Cup standards as early as 2001, so the latest work on it should future-proof the stadium for some time to come. Part of the modernisation package has included a new seating level, electronic access, and two video screens which are the biggest of their type found in Europe.
