This stunningly designed new stadium will be the host to Germany's first game in the 2006 World Cup on 9th June. It is quite unique in its appearance with the exterior being constructed from translucent, lozenge-shaped cushions to give it a dazzling appearance at night as they glow with a range of colours.
This € 280m project was finished in April 2005 and is now a shared home for TSV 1860 Munich and FC Bayern Munich, both benefiting from a spectator capacity of 66,000 and Europe's largest underground car park with space for 10,000 cars.
Munich were honoured with being given the World Cup Opening Ceremony by Fifa in March 2004 and along with that prestige the arena will be the scene of one of the semi-finals.
