This new futuristic stadium for Frankfurt was started with construction in 2002 and was built to replace the Waldstadion, host to some classic sporting events like the 1974 World Cup semi-final between Poland and West Germany.
Construction was completed in October 2005 having used 80,000 cubic metres of concrete and 12,000 tons of steel. This project was built with regard for the historic nature of the site and as part of the Green Goal environment initiative with the stadium featuring a vast rainwater collection and drainage facility. On top of € 126 million construction costs, € 45 million has been spent on the transport infrastructure in the area.
The new Waldstadion is home to Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, and most recently hosted the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 Final between Brazil and Argentina
